Tuesday evening we sat down to supper and Josiah asked to say his own blessing.
"Dear Jesus,
You saved our lives. We are eternally grateful." He continued with some very appropriate acknowledgments of what Jesus did for us and what that means in our lives, but the bold phrase is taken almost verbatim from a scene in Toy Story, when the little green guys (I think) are thanking Buzz or Woody or somebody (it's been awhile since I watched it) during the pizza truck driving scene. This makes sense, as they were watching favorite scenes from the DVDs just before we ate.
So, the cool thing here is that J heard the phrase, remembered it, and connected it with what God gave to us through Christ's suffering and death and subsequent resurrection. Wednesday evening, when I tried to get him to repeat the prayer so Lisa could hear it (yeah, bad parent habit - trying to get the kids to perform like trained puppies) and commented on his use of the Toy Story phrase, Josiah pointed out that "That's what Jesus did, he saved our lives!"
Can't argue with that.
